Me: "O yes, I am sick alright"
Alec: "Are you getting old?"
Me: "I am. But I got sick because of the virus, not because I'm getting old"
Alec: "Are you going to die?"
Me: "From this flu? Usually not"
Alec: "You are old, but you are not going to die?"
Me: "No honey"
Alec: "Phew! You scared me there!
2. Alec: "Why are you taking some medicine?"
Me: "Because I want to get better. So I can play with you"
Alec: "And also so you don't die?" I laughed and said: "Yes, so I don't die"
Alec: "If you die, the worms will eat you?"
Me: "Why did you ask about dying, sweetie?"
Alec: "I don't know"
3. Alec and I made cookies in the kitchen...
Me: "I need one egg, please" Alec ran and get an egg from the fridge
Me: "Do you know where does the chicken from?"
Alec: "From the egg, of course"
Me: "Where does the egg from?"
Alec: "From the refrigerator"

It amazed me, his comprehension on the fact of 'die'.
I think you did a good job in chit-chat about life & death with Alec ;o)
I'm not sure I'll be able to explain about life & death to a 4yo...... it's very hard.
