At the traffic light close by our house, there were a few boys selling (Indonesian) rice crispy treats. Alec asked a lot of whys and I explained to him that some kids do not have the luxury of owning what he has. That's why we have to count our blessings.
Later in the afternoon, Alec took his toys out of the toy box and named them one by one...like: dump truck, excavator, scrapper, grader, steam roller, jack hammer, bob cat, dart guns, etc...
Astuti: "Alec sedang apa?" (What are you doing, Alec?)
Alec: "Alec sedang hitung berkat..." (I am counting my blessings...)
Astuti: "Berkat apa? Siapa yang suruh?" (Blessings? Who ask you to do that?)
Alec: "Mami bilang harus hitung berkat" (Mommy said that we have to count our blessings).
"Terlalu banyak mainan -- tolong itungin berkat Alec, mba..." (There are too many toys -- would you count my blessings, please?"
