Is 'A' a '4'?

Alec has confused the letter "A" with the number "4". We've tried everything that we can think of to help him learn the differences -- like when we ride an elevator, we count the numbers. When we read alphabet books, we also tried to make him remember that it was letter "A". But so far, nothing works…

Me:
“Sweetie, that’s not number '4'. It’s an 'A', like A L E C?”
Alec:
“You are such a silly goose, Mom. It is '4', THIS is an 'A' (pointed number '4'). You need to do your homework, now”
